15 Best Heavy Metal Songs Of 2016 (So Far)

4. Death Angel - The Moth

Providing a fix for all you thrashers out there, Bay Area, California's Death Angel have been a prominent fixture in the thrash scene for over three decades now, and incredibly, they came out of the gates this year with one of their finest compositions to date in the form of 'The Moth'.

Despite a lengthy hiatus in the 90's, the group have come back stronger than ever in recent years. With this ferocious track, the band continue that trend. it's as chaotic as the genre gets, with the group playing at skin peeling speeds before locking into a mid-tempo groove on the verses, admirably refusing to succumb to an-all out speed-fest just for the sake of it.

The chorus that the group concoct here is really the star of the show. Unlike many thrash bands, Death Angel clearly understand the effectiveness of a solid chorus, and boy does 'The Moth' have a kick-ass chorus. You'll be shouting 'We live forever!' by the third listen, as the group devour everything in their wake thanks to a scintillating main riff and some devastating drum pummelling. Throw in an explosive shredding guitar solo and you've got one of the most blood-pumping songs of 2016 so far.

These thrash veterans certainly haven't become jaded with time, on 'The Moth' they sound as hungry as they've ever been in their thirty-plus year career.
