5. Becoming Insane

You wouldn’t think that the Spanish lute would work well in a psychedelic track, but IM manage to make this instrument work perfectly in one of their greatest compositions. ‘Becoming Insane’ is the epitome of a ‘dance-floor track’ despite its myriad of unusual and synthesised sounds, bizarre lyrics, and overall composition.

Though not as heavy on the bass side as some of IM’s other tracks, ‘Becoming Insane’ makes up for it by having killer vocals (In both English and Spanish, to complement the lute), heavy guitar use to give the track more of an ‘industrial’ feel, and an excellent build-up. Like any psychedelic song, it has a strong build-up and gets better towards the end, with the final two minutes being especially awesome.

Sure enough, IM shot up to 9th place in the 2007 DJMag’s Top 100 DJs list, which coincided with the release of the Vicious Delicious album, on which this track was featured. So while it might not be as ‘psychedelic’ as some of the band’s other tracks, it’s an awesome track that deserves repetitive listening to.
