In keeping with the new creative direction that IM was going in at the time, ‘None of This is Real’ was the perfect example of the darker tone that was put into their work. Containing samples from the film ‘The Crow II’, this track was on their second album ‘Classical Mushroom’ which, as the name implied, combined psychedelic trance music with the classical music background that the band members grew up with.

However, this track features more than a few classical strings to tie in to that theme. It features heavy guitar use, but even that isn’t particularly aggressive or sharp. In fact, everything is smooth and balanced, with the mastering of this track being done in a way that gives the classical instruments in the background enough volume vis-à-vis stronger instruments to keep that ‘creepy’ vibe throughout the track.

Like many other of IM’s early tracks, this isn’t exactly something you’d find yourself dancing to, but instead makes the perfect background music for a creepy video game, or in preparation for watching a scary horror movie. Because Infected Mushroom manage to create a very specific kind of atmosphere with this track, one that might make you second guess what it is that you're seeing and hearing.
