From 1993's Vs, Daughter is one of the first uplifting songs the band released. After the dark themes and sound of Ten, it was a refreshing change, tapping into the band's more alternative side while still keeping Ten's power. 

It's difficult to tell what the song is about. Vedder said it was about kids who were beaten for having learning difficulties, which the parents took as rebellion. He also said "Good creative people are just f**king destroyed". It's Vedder's ability to have this message  in a song with this tone, that makes it so captivating.

The acoustic riff - played by guitarist Stone Gossard - is one that instantly lifts the hearts of listeners when they hear it - fans always know it's time for a sing along. Another regular live song, it's structure allows the band to add in parts at key sections, making even more interesting. 

They even went as far as adding in some of Frozen's Let It Go in the middle of it during a 2013 gig... only Pearl Jam.
