15 Best Rock Songs About Growing Up

2. Ghosts Of Days Gone By - Alter Bridge

The narrator in this song personifies his past as a ghost that follows him around, refusing to leave him alone. While his memories are happy ones, the rational part of his mind is telling him that those days are over now, and there's no going back. We can only move forward, whether we want to or not, as is life.

The concept of death also comes into play towards the end of the track. The narrator is coming to terms with the shocking pace at which our lives go by, and the fact that growing closer to his time only makes him miss the old times even more. Plus, the memories are something of a double-edged sword; as he's happy he lived them, but upset they continue to stay with him when he knows full well he can't return to them.

Not only are the lyrics of this song great, but they are delivered in an emotional, powerful way that meshes with the instrumental flawlessly; with a chorus that is as harmonic as it is moving. Don't be surprised to find your foot tapping or head bobbing by the end of it.
