15 Best Rock Songs About Growing Up

10. It's My Turn - Jeff & Casey Lee Williams

This song comes from the soundtrack of Rooster Teeth's animated show, RWBY. However, do not let its esoteric origin turn you off. Like most of the songs on the soundtrack, the lyrics are universal, and can be identified with by a large audience as the songs talk about some of the real-life struggles people go through.

This song in particular is about a child who was constantly put down and belittle by what we can presume to be a parental figure. She then breaks through this as she comes of age, achieving the dreams and goals she was constantly told she would never be able to. The narrator has one simple message for the aforementioned antagonistic figure: "I'm not yours any longer."

From a technical standpoint, it's also very well-made song. It starts off slow an easy before building up a wonderful crescendo. If you're a fan of that structure, this song is for you, and there really is something to be said about those with the talent to seamlessly combine different tones and tempos in their music. When it comes to that, the Williamses (a father-daughter musical duo) rank up there with some of the best.
