15 Facts You Didn't Know About Blink-182

12. They Had Lots Of Trouble When Choosing A Band Name

The original trio of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Scott Raynor just couldn’t settle on the perfect band name, and once they did, there was potential lawsuit on their hands (not the only lawsuit they'd be hit with, as you'll see later).

The band originally floated around the names ‘Duck Tape’ and ‘Figure 8’ before finally deciding on the name ‘Blink’ (Far better than the other two, I must say). However, they were quickly threatened with a lawsuit from an Irish band who were also called Blink… so they added on a ‘-182’ to be different.

One popular rumour has it that the band chose the 182 because it’s the number of times the F-word is said in Scarface. Another is that the 182 stands for “Rancho Bernado” where they went to high school (R is the 18th latter, B is the 2nd letter of the alphabet). The band seem to want to keep the mystery alive and you can’t get a single straight answer out of any of them about it.
