11. Pyromania (1983) - Def Leppard
Def Leppard may have single-handedly started the pop metal movement of the 80's. There's no denying the influence of Pyromania. It cemented the pop metal template: Catchy melodies, hooks, sing-along choruses, big production. This album has it all. Hysteria may be the band's biggest selling album overall, but in my opinion, Pyromania always had the better songs. They still kept things relatively heavy here. Plus, had this album not been a success, we may not have even gotten Hysteria in the first place. Most of the band's popular songs are here: Photograph, Too Late For Love, Rock Of Ages, Foolin'. All great songs of course, but the rest of the album is no filler either. Die Hard The Hunter and Billy's Got A Gun are epic, and Coming Under Fire and Action Not Words are great straight rockers. Essential for any hard rock fan.
