15 Hilariously Awful Songs Released In The Name Of Charity

5. Peter Kay, Matt Lucas & The Proclaimers - 500 Miles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO6lSDL1i7A With (Is This The Way To) Amarillo, Peter Kay not only brought a long forgotten track to the top of the charts with his trademark use of "back in the day" humour; he also jump started Tony Christie's career. After being at #1 for four weeks, Christie rereleased his second biggest forgotten hit Avenues And Alleyways, as well as big band Christmas hits, unofficial football anthems (basically, Amarillo with new words) and even a surprisingly well received new collection of cover versions from his home town of Sheffield. Scottish twin-brothers The Proclaimers must have been pretty chuffed when Kay chose their 1988, #11 hit (you'd have thought it would have been higher) I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) for his next Comic Relief project, then. With Kay as Phoenix Nights' character Brian Potter and Matt Lucas as Little Britain's Andy Pipkin, the duo rolled 500 miles in front of an audience that included The Krankies, Tess Daly, Paul O'Grady and even Bobby Davro, who gets a shoutout during the song. The Proclaimers took the last verse of the song, which spent four weeks at #1, and no doubt lead to a new Proclaimers Best Of album, tour, musical and film.
