15 Hilariously Awful Songs Released In The Name Of Charity

2. Various Artists For Children's Promise - It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvlY9fEcjiA The who's who of the line-up of this charity single is arguably more impressive than any other. There are the legends (Mick Jagger & Keith Richards, James Brown) to the new kids - at the time (Spice Girls, Natalie Imbruglia), to the respectable rockstars (Iggy Pop - pre-adverts, Stereophonics' Kelly Jones) to the bizarre (Eric Idle, Eternal's Kéllé Bryan?). Despite this, the public didn't particularly like it at all, with the track only briefly peaking inside the Top 20 in December 1999. (of course, Cliff's Millenium Prayer had also just been released for the same charity. Greedy!) It's difficult to pinpoint the reasons why they didn't go for it, even though the money was going to a children's charity. Was it the song choice? The "We like it, we like it, S Club likes it" line? Bad timing? (it was released during the last month of the millennium, with everyone and their grandma releasing songs aiming to be the last Christmas no.1). Or simply that it was a five-minute cringe-fest? Yeah, that one. Definitely the last one.
