10 Most Criminally Underrated Alter Bridge Songs You Must Hear
6. Down To My Last
The main reason more people haven't heard of Alter Bridge is primarily down to them having to buy their way out of two consecutive record contracts. In the documentary 'One by One' that shipped with the bonus version of AB III, the band note that being they were formerly Creed (with Scott Stapp on vocals) both labels simply wanted to push the ballads and softer tracks off their records instead.
Down to My Last isn't exactly a 'heavy' song, but it is one with one of Mark's greatest guitar solos. Featuring a lighthearted rhythm and some of Myles' most subtly impressive vocals (the highs and lows throughout are spectacular), Mark comes bursting in with some huge screeching bends, a neat legato run and even an ending note made harmonic by tapping it with his finger - just for extra flair.
Give it a listen, it's a real rollercoaster of a song, with the solo itself marking one of the first times Tremonti would apply all the skills and lessons he'd been learning in the interim years between Creed's end and the birth of AB.
