Deciphering what exactly qualifies constitutes an "official" Beatles release can be taxing, so for the sake of simplicity, let's call this US-only album a sufficient stand-in for the records released on the Parlophone label in the UK. While many of the "hodgepodge" albums put forth stateside suffered from the cherry-picking among various LPs, Yesterday and Today has such an incredible bundle of classic Beatles tracks that it ends up a forgivable sin. There are tracks from Help!, Rubber Soul, and Revolver. So essentially, Yesterday and Today acts as a greatest hits of sorts, and although it lacks some of the standout tracks from each of the aforementioned albums (they couldn't have cherry-picked "In My Life" and "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away"?), it's a worthy look at The Beatles progression of sound.
