This hurried debut from Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss is a minimalist drum-and-guitar rocker that introduced the world to one of the greatest rock bands of the 90s. Sleater-Kinney exploded out of the riot grrrl scene thanks to their furious guitar work and rebellious lyrics. Though it's far from their best work, this self-titled album set the tone for what rawk music would sound like in the mid-to-late 90s: thrashy, wailing, and anti-misoginist. Standout track "A Real Man," lasts barely more than a minute, but is the most raucous, in-your-face track on the album, confronting sexism with lines like:
