15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of All Time
4. Era Vulgaris - Queens Of The Stone Age
Of all the great rock bands to come out of the 2000's, Queens of the Stone Age had to be one of the most unusual groups to ever infest the rock charts. With their stoner rock weirdness, albums like Songs for the Deaf and Lullabies to Paralyze offered great singles like "Little Sister" and "No One Knows." So why does everyone sidestep Era Vulgaris?
This was the second record that Homme made without the help of Mark Lanagen or Nick Oliveri, but the actual results are still as haunting as ever. The actual sound of this record feels like what the band would sound like if they were being produced by Trent Reznor, with songs like "Sick Sick Sick" having that more biting rock edge. The album also goes for smoother cuts like on "Make It Wit Chu," which features Homme doing his best seductive take on Elvis Presley's vocal timbre.
Across the album, Homme always stated that he wanted to create what he described as "robot rock," which makes sense given the more mechanical guitar tones and even song themes like "Turnin on the Screw" and "Battery Acid." This may be seen as a musical pit stop for most fans, but look a little closer at these tracks and you'll see just how strange this band can get.
