15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Bands Of All Time

3. Mott The Hoople

As the 70's gave way to more pompous forms of arena rock, the glam rock movement brought bands that were making straightforward rock hits in platform shoes. Though these songs were a shot of life for rock, most of these acts were mining styles that catered much more to garage rock than the more professional rock of the late 60's. In the middle of it all, Mott the Hoople emerged as the bluesy antecedent to the more primitive garage prettyboys.

Mott's first few efforts became some of the most awe-inspiring music to come out of the glam period, with songs that had as much sonic grit as the hard rock of old. While the look was still firmly rooted in glam, the band's MO always was more on the guitar riffs than the amount of rouge under their eyes.

The band did have one bonafied classic with the David Bowie penned "All the Young Dudes," but the band struggled to recapture any of that magic on other records. Regardless of mainstream accessibility, songs like "The Golden Age of Rock n Roll" are still jams that should be celebrated much more than they are. Mott the Hoople were far from the best band of the era, but their shining light deserves to be so much brighter.
