15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Bands Of All Time

2. The Kinks

As the British Invasion sweeped across Europe and America, any rock fan could easily find their next favorite band popping up every other week. From the raw grit of the Rolling Stones to the bluesy fury of the Yardbirds, each act was taking the influences of rockers like Chuck Berry and Little Richard and making it much more nasty. Though the Kinks had their fair share of hits at the time, they deserve to be remembered much more than their first few singles.

That's not to discount songs like "You Really Got Me" or "All Day and All of the Night" specifically, given both of those tunes are still bangers that signaled something much heavier down the road. Aside from those tunes, the songwriting of Ray Davies made for some of the most understated rock and roll to come out of its golden age.

With albums like Village Green Preservation Society and Something Else, you get to see just how lush and extravagant this band can be, with songs that hold up as musical works of art. There's a good chance that the Kinks won't be mentioned in the same breath as Led Zeppelin or the Who, but rock would be a shell of what it is today if not for these tunes.
