15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Singers EVER
10. Jack Bruce - Cream
Cream were one of the most original bands emerging from the London blues scene in the late 60's. Their mix of blues, psychedelia, and hard rock came together to form a large cacophony of noise that stretched from Black Sabbath to the Beatles. However, many uninitiated fans will just remember the group as "the band Eric Clapton was in."
While there's no denying the power that Slowhand had in the band's power, the rest of this trio were just as important as their Guitar God. Standing right to his side, Jack Bruce could hold his own on the bass while being a commanding voice behind the mic. Being one of the more musically trained players in the scene, Bruce's instinctual nature with his instrument came very naturally. Whenever you put on something like "Spoonful," there's an urgency in Bruce's delivery that seems to hearken back not just to the blues legends, but also elements of soul and R&B.
The way that Bruce and Clapton would often trade lines during a song was a brilliant strategy to give you the softer stylings of Clapton's vocals and the gusto behind Bruce's throat. Given that Clapton's guitar sound was so monstrous, it's nice to know that Bruce's vocals had just the right intensity to match it.
