15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Singers EVER
11. Phil Lynott - Thin Lizzy
Thin Lizzy always seemed to be the right band at the wrong time. From the moment that they started on the scene, the band radiated attitude but was never able to grasp the legendary status of their contemporaries. While the songs may not be as "essential" as someone like Led Zeppelin, frontman Phil Lynott belongs up there with the greatest singers in rock and roll.
Whereas most hard rock singers were trying to blow each other away through sheer force, Lynott's approach had a much more laid-back delivery. As opposed to putting you through the musical ringer, each Thin Lizzy song made you feel like you were about to be told an epic story of rock and roll grandeur. In addition to being a fantastic vocalist, Lynott composed most of the music in the band, which made for some of the most interesting stories to ever come from the hard rock canon.
Right when it seemed like the band was registering with the public, Lynott's drug addictions ended up getting the best of him. By 1985, Lynott was in terrible shape and eventually died of drug-related illnesses shortly after coming off the road. While everyone remembers songs like "The Boys Are Back In Town," it's worth taking a deep dive into Lizzy's back catalog to see what a talent Lynott really was.
