15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Singers EVER
8. Chino Moreno - Deftones
As the metal scene started to spread out in the 90's, bands were bringing different influences into the mix to create vast sonic landscapes. While groups like Linkin Park were able to take this approach to masses of people, it was Deftones who created the purest mixture of synthetic and heavy.
Though many may listen to the band for the heavy riffs and ethereal ambiance, the vocals of Chino Moreno would always put you in a haze. The power in Chino's vocals go hand in hand with the way he approaches writing vocal parts. When you throw on any of the band's back catalog, you'll think the melody is going one way, but Chino will stop on the more dissonant notes rather than what you're normally accustomed to.
For any other band, this kind of style would sound horrible in context, but the way Chino sings these lines speaks to another side of your brain. Sure, it sounds off a little bit, but that little touch instills the proper amount of dread into the songs he is singing. Deftones have been known to be a cut above other nu metal bands, but when you have a vocalist that can make wrong notes sound right, you're on a completely different level.
