15 Things Only KISS Fans Will Understand

3. KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park Is Far Better Than Most People Remember

KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park was panned on its release in 1978. A television film that achieved surprisingly high ratings, its poor jokes and weak acting resulted in its rejection by many fans of the band. Yet with hindsight, many fans have come to look back on the film with a certain fondness. It is now a cult classic among real fans of the show. KISS themselves have, admittedly, publicly rejected the film. Simmons and Frehley have both mocked it as a schlocky piece of b-movie nonsense. They're right - it is pretty rubbish when compared with the feature films of other musicians at the time. But it is unbelievably fun to watch. Its cheesiness and its poor production values provide a real chuckle, and genuine fans of the band locate plenty of charm in these fairly early images of the band (they'd only been going for about 5 years at the time). Whether it was a mistake or not, the film is an interesting and humorous document of the band's classic era, and will remain canonical in the eyes of their most dedicated fans.
