Cavalera has made it clear through the years that he is a fan of nu-metal, a sub-genre which most hardcore fans of metal tend to discredit at an alarming rate.

Since the release of Dark Ages in 2005, Soulfly's music veered away from that style into a more death metal sound helping to give the music a harder exterior.

Before that however, Soulfly very much used aspects of nu-metal to a great degree, even bringing in Limp Bizkit figurehead Fred Durst to supply some wicked rapping for good measure. It is something that tends to split Cavalera fans for obvious reasons but there's no denying that the early releases like Primitive and Prophecy contain some of his most infectious and groove based productions.

Whatever side of the fence you are on with this one, it's refreshing to see an old school thrash head like Cavalera embrace new sounds.
