9. Theres So Much More To Them Than Down With The Sickness
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIDd-_VoFCE The track that gave the world "Oh-wa-a-a-ah!", one of Draiman's darkest lyrical moments that connotes an abusive scenario between him and a fictional mother - and one hell of a basis for a Richard Cheese 'lounge version' of the song, Down with the Sickness tends to top 'Best Disturbed Song' lists left, right and centre. However - and this isn't a knock to the track itself, more a comment on how solid their discography is across the board - they've written far more accomplished, anthemic and mature songs since. The Sickness album was their first foray into the world, and was loaded with nu-metal character (Droppin' Plates being the most late-90s thing since board shorts), but it's when you look at the likes of Prayer, Overburdened, Torn, Remember, Pain Redefined or The Night - to name but six) you get a far more rounded idea of everything the band do better than everyone else. Huge riffs, some of the best choruses in the genre and a heap of communal empowerment between artist and fan helped take Disturbed far further than if they'd stuck with that original album's characteristics, and it's high-time fans of other bands recognised that.
