18 Things Only Alter Bridge Fans Will Understand
9. We Could Watch The Band Backstage For Hours
Much like the backstage 'MetOnTour' videos that Metallica put out nearly every week when they're on tour, Alter tend to store theirs up for a DVD release and give us one great big fan-pleasing package of backstage antics, outtakes and rehearsal footage all at once.
In today's world nearly everyone is interested in what everyone else has to say and it adds another layer to the level of interaction the fans have towards the band, especially when the many meet and greets are included that show just how down to earth and relatable each member of the group are when surrounded by mobs of admirers.
It's great to know that someone as tonally-perfect and professional as the band on-stage can just goof around, and with Alter being one of a few bands to really embrace a different level of fan-insight (each album has a making of video, or a series of in-progress clips) we always get a look into the studio when the time comes to create the next album.
8. AB III Is An Underrated Masterpiece
Some listeners just never got away with AB III due to a variety of reasons ranging from only a handful of songs being as 'huge' as what had gone beforehand, to just personally not being a fan of the album's conceptual nature, or the fact that the whole album is to be taken as a whole; telling Myles' personal story of faith lost and dreams dashed thanks to the vicissitudes of Father Time forever knocking at everyone's door.
However if you come at it from a more progressive, experimental angle and really breathe in the lyrics, the entire piece begins to take form and the subtle brilliance of the story through the songs emerges, leading to one of Myles' most highly-regarded and sonically-amazing vocal performances on Breathe Again, the point in the album where our protagonist realises they have to carry on and find strength within themselves rather than in the surrounding world.
And that's not to mention Mark Tremonti's first foray into lead vocals on the hidden gem career-highlight of Words Darker Than Their Wings; a track spawned from a conversation Myles and Mark had around the idea of faith and the afterlife, with Myles taking the agnostic/atheistic view and Mark the opposite. Verses are traded with a lyricism that initially sounds more like someone speaking to a lost love or forgotten relative, with them both singing alternately before joining up on the chorus and agreeing that whatever happens, they won't know until the end, where "into the light, may they know truth alone".
