18 Things Only Slash Fans Will Understand
The Man in the Hat has done everything from resurrection to changing rock history.
If the apocalypse ever actually does happen there'll be a few things that are left intact; one being the long hair, hat n' glasses combo of Saul 'Slash' Hudson, standing knees bent with a Les Paul resting low in his hands as he plays some sonically-awesome population-reviving solo. The man is immortal - or at least it definitely feels that way. Having gone from changing the face of rock n' roll along with Axl Rose and the other members of Guns n' Roses the band slowly fell apart, but it didn't even remotely stop there. Following GnR Slash released a couple of albums with different lineups under the title of 'Slash's Snakepit'; themselves packed to the brim with tight riffage and some brilliantly experimental solos. Rounding the bend to meet back up with his former bandmates, fans worldwide subsequently did backflips when he formed Velvet Revolver with Stone Temple Pilots' frontman Scott Weiland - the potent combination of which gave us one of the best hard rock songs of the decade in Slither, as well as the gorgeous Fall to Pieces and the raucous Headspace. Contraband was one hell of a debut album, and although followup Libertad has divided many (and Slash's wife) in terms of it being a solid listen throughout, when 2010's solo album debuted and he found the righteous pipes of Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy, it's been rocket-powered momentum ever since. Both 2012's Apocalyptic Love and the singles from upcoming World On Fire sound like a group of people having the time of their lives, backed up by levels of talent that come once every few lifetimes. The Guns n' Roses fanbase has merged with that of Velvet Revolver and now the Alter Bridge fanatics are in the mix too, reminding everyone that although Slash has always been one of the greatest music icons in history, in 2014 he's more important than ever.
