18 Things Only Slash Fans Will Understand

7. He€™s One Of The Only Real Rockstars Left

Slash is one of the only people to have completely dominated the 80's rock scene, continue to fire out albums and guest spots through the 90's and finally emerge three decades later, still holding himself with as much dignity and cheshire-cat cool as he always has. The methodically silent, contemplative outlook hasn't changed, and aside from giving up smoking for the sake of good health, the image hasn't either. Rock might be in a strange place in 2014 with regards to many peoples' general perception towards it as some sort of bygone musical movement, but with guys like Slash and the messianic Dave Grohl making some of the best music known to man that mixes the old and new, it proves the genre itself will always have a place in peoples' hearts.

6. 2012's Apocalyptic Love Is One Of The Best Rock Albums In Years

There are some who only want to listen to the Guns n' Roses material, and that's totally fine - especially since all three core albums are absolute corkers with not a bad song among them. However for the rest of us who have stuck with him over the years, it's always an event when a new album is going to come out. In the case of Apocalyptic Love it was the first with Myles, and so there wasn't just pressure from all of Slash's lifelong fans, but that of Alter Bridge too. Thus when 'You're a Lie' burst out of the pre-release gates and settled into our hearts thanks to a very bouncy riff and some chorus vocal-barks that we couldn't wait to sing along to live, it was good vibes all round. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5rRH6OWt58 From the wah pedal-drenched title track to the sombre self-reflective Not For Me and the orgasmically-enjoyable opening riffage of both Hard & Fast and Shots Fired, the album had everything for fans of his older work as well as those who were here for some humungous choruses and singalong verses. Add in a bonus track where Slash busted out the talkbox for the intro and solo of Carolina as something of a callback to the Tokyo '92 gig, and it was impossible not to love every second.
