11. Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York

It's the setting you never expected to see them; performing acoustically for MTV, but boy, did Nirvana nail it. As far as iconic performances go, things don't get much bigger. Stripping away all the noise from the amps and drums revealed just how hauntingly beautiful Nirvana's songs were, and you can thank Unplugged for that.

Unlike other Unplugged performances, Nirvana recorded theirs in one take, and only played one 'hit' (1992's Come As You Are) opting to play more covers than usual. This gave birth to one of the most memorable covers on record; that of Lead Belly's 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night?' 

It showed how Kurt Cobain, armed only with his voice and a guitar could make a room stand still, still capable of holding you in that moment to this day.
