Indie pop band Fun were less than a blip on the mainstream radar until 2012, when they brought in Jeff Bhasker one of West's "Fantasy" co-producers to produce their sophomore album. The result was "Some Nights," a record that spawned two ubiquitous singles ("We Are Young" and the title track) and singlehandedly rocketed them to nationwide fame and fortune. Despite the singles, though, fun. saved their best song for the album's closing slot. An ambitious seven-minute epic, "Stars" is the band's most obvious homage to "Fantasy." It's a soaring and bombastic pop number that shows what autotune and other studio wizardry can do in the right hands. By the time frontman Nate Reuss straps on a vocodor for the big, beat-heavy climax, it's hard not to wonder why any set of speakers don't go louder than they do.
