20 Greatest Alternative Albums Of 2016

15. Clipping. – Splendor & Misery

Clipping. aren't your typical hip-hop group, far from it in fact. The three-piece have a sound so expansive and atmospheric that it only made sense for them to take it into outer space. On Splendor & Misery, they do just that.

There's a real clear sense of what they want to achieve on the album, with its transparently defined cinematics and consistent thematic flow. It's also an incredibly vivid experience, with songs like the red alert freestyle 'Air 'Em Out' and the ominous pressure valve 'Break The Glass' expertly nailing the space-bound atmosphere that they strive for.

Subtle, deft and pure – three attributes that perfectly sum up this stargazing, cosmic delight. Warning though: Once you've boarded this spaceship, you might not want to leave it anytime soon...
