20 Greatest Alternative Albums Of 2016

13. Weezer – The White Album

In what has been a pretty dark year musically, you can always rely on alternative rock stalwarts Weezer to shed some light in their madcap, childlike way.

The narrative of the record is basically boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl dumps boy, boy is sad. But it's done in such a heartwarming and innocent fashion that you can't help but fall in love with some of these fuzzy tracks.

There's a very pop-punk feel to many of the cuts, with songs like the rousing anthem 'California Kids' and the pop-tastic gem 'King Of The World' practically jumping from the speakers with upbeat intensity. In a year that also saw releases from pop-punk legends Green Day and Blink 182, Weezer's The White Album is easily the most noteworthy of the bunch.

More importantly though, this grandstand return contains some of the most fun and carefree music you'll come across in 2016. Bravo boys.
