20 Greatest Alternative Albums Of 2016

12. Autolux – Pussy’s Dead

Fancy something a little more mind-melting? Look no further than the recent Autolux output, the electronic-infused brain fryer Pussy’s Dead.

The multi-talented Carla Azar once again shows why she’s one of the most talented musicians in all of alternative rock, thanks to her metronomic drumming capabilities, mixed with her wispy vocal lines – a combination that requires serious proficiency.

But it's the whole band that makes Pussy's Dead such a compelling listen. The bizarre instrumental juxtapositions and fragmented song structures create an air of unpredictability that flows right through it from start to finish. Songs like 'Selectallcopy' and 'Soft Scene' glow like futuristic beacons, while album highlight 'Brainwasher' goes so low that you can literally feel the bass move through your entire body.

Pussy’s Dead is as oddball as they come, but its eccentricity just so happens to be one of its greatest strengths.
