Like Daft Punk, the leading men behind Orbital, brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll, preferred to keep their faces as hidden as possible when performing live. Rather than use full face masks they opted for torch-mounted spectacles to dazzle fans trying to check them out up close. It should be stated from the beginning that Orbital's star has well and truly waned in recent years, their newer releases falling well short of the high standards found in modern electronic music. But they deserve full praise for their earlier albums, of which Snivilisation is perhaps the best (if not necessarily the most popular). Allison Goldfrapp provides some of the vocals, with the 15 minute Are We Here? providing a real stand out moment to savour.
