If Daft Punk can be said to represent the forefront of French house music, Massive Attack reside in an altogether different musical realm of downtempo beats and rock inflections, falling under the now somewhat out of date genre of trip hop. Labels aside (ultimately they don't mean a great deal, and rarely have any bearing on whether or not music is inherently good), Massive Attack's third album Mezzanine took their style in new and darker directions over their previous work - reverberating guitars wail over dubby beats as guest vocalists whisper and chant. A hardy perennial album for tokers around the world.
