20 Greatest Empowering Break-Up Songs

10. You're So Vain - Carly Simon

The History: Since this song debuted in 1972, everyone's been wondering who this jerk is. Forty years and we still don't know who she's singing about. but that hasn't stop the song from becoming Simon's biggest hit. It remained at the top spot for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number three in the UK.

Why It's Great: I'll be honest, this is not my favorite, but it made it on the list because of the way she uses the song as a medium to tell a story. This story is about a man who has so much that he doesn't realize what he's got, and throws away what most of us would consider one of the most valuable things in the world.

However, the only thing in the world this guy cares about is his image. Aside from the lyrics, Simon's emotion in her voice fits the song perfectly.
