20 Greatest Empowering Break-Up Songs

7. Dogs Days Are Over - Florence + The Machine

The History: This track was on Florence's debut album Lungs. It peaked at number twenty one on the Billboard Hot 100 and twenty three on the UK Singles Chart. It also received multi platinum certification in the US. Florence + The Machine performed this song at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and the video won an award for Best Art Direction. NME ranked it number thirty three in their €œ150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years€ List.

Why It's Great: You caught me. It's not an outright song about a break up. In fact, I don't even know if there is a particular meaning to this song. Even Florence says that she just pulled in all sorts of inspiration and said, "€œPeople can attach their own emotions to it. It's like a riddle, but it's for yourself."

What I do know is that sometimes relationships and break ups are the €œdog days€ of our lives, that sometimes they are are knock down drag out fight. This song is to celebrate coming out of those days and into happier ones. With a good beat, whimsical sound, and Florence's awesome vocals, it's really hard not to be happy while listening to this song. If you're not happier by the end of this song, I suggest you go grab something stronger or go hug a puppy.
