4. Tony Iommi (7)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtqy4DTHGqg What can I say about the man that he hasnt said himself in his excellent biography, Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell Through Black Sabbath? With a new Sabbath studio album in the imminent future, the first with Ozzy since 79, and Iommi battling lymphoma what does the future hold? A legends legend, Iommi is a founding father of heavy metal and virtually all of his 70s work forms a canon of sorts in the heavy metal bible. The pinnacle of Iommis work is found on the 75 release, Sabotage, featuring Hole In The Sky and Symptom Of The Universe. 3. Jimmy Page (6)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q7Vr3yQYWQ Some people say that Led Zeppelin invented heavy metal in the early 70s with tunes like Immigrant Song and Whole Lotta Love. Whether thats true or not there is no denying that, for a time in the 70s, Led Zeppelin was the biggest band on the planet. While I appreciate the necessity of Jimmy Page being prominent in any great guitarist list I have to admit to being a little puzzled personally. Zep was a little before my time and certainly too cerebral for my adolescent, unformed brain. I know this probably borders on sacrilege for some of you but Ive never quite gotten it where Pages legend is concerned, and yes there is a comment section below.
