7. Fleetwood Mac Go Your Own Way
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GN2kpBoFs4 This was the rock equivalent of Knowing Me, Knowing You by Abba, and with hindsight is the story of a much more weird and confused band relationship, the video for this song was the birth of reality TV, there hadn't been this much loathing in eye contact between band members since The Beatles performed Hey Jude on the David Frost show. The story went thus, the band comprised of two couples, John and Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, plus the original drummer Mick Fleetwood. The two couples split up whilst in the process of making their masterpiece Rumours, which was an album of songs of deception, misery and ultimately loneliness. Go your own way was the antithesis of the all-inclusive, unconditional love song of the 60s, this was bitchy, bitter and literally told the other half in the partnership to go away, sleep with whoever they wanted to. You can go your own way, go your own way, you can call it another lonely day But once we get past the acrimony, this is a perfect example of what made the 70s wonderful, pioneering rock, a great tune and above all isolation. This was a lonely decade, and You can go your own way summed up the solitude.

What makes music fantastic? Star quality, amazing music, breathtaking lyrics and the ability to bring something new to the table, even if that means a new take on the classics. That's what I love to listen to and write about.
