20 Most Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of All Time
7. Hit The Floor - Linkin Park
Linkin Park definitely had their work cut out for them in the early 2000's. After exploding onto the metal scene with their debut release Hybrid Theory, the band set the example for how to overcome the sophomore slump with Meteora, with more than half of the record getting released as singles. Though they may have dipped their toes into alt-rock territory, "Hit The Floor" showed that the metallic side of their sound was firmly in place.
Driven by Brad Delson's Eastern-inspired guitar riff, the entire track offers a tribal spin on the band's usual melodic sensibilities. As opposed to turning their pain inward, Mike Shinoda's verses detail his adversary who celebrates their achievements while treading a thin line. Just when Shinoda sees his chance, Chester Bennington comes screaming past him with some of the greatest screams on the entire record, as the band seizes their opportunity to hit the listener with the force of a wrecking ball.
The real brilliance of the song is in its ability to do a lot with a little. Right when you think the song is about to explode, the technical glitches bring the song down before coming to a mechanically-fused ending. Instead of feeling unfinished, "Hit The Floor" leaves you wanting more in the most refreshing way possible.
