20 Most Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of All Time
8. Bleeding Me - Metallica
In the grand scheme of Metallica's discography, Load seems to be a bit of a contentious listen. Even though some of the songs have been received praise over the years, many fans just see it as an excuse for the band to cash in on alternative trends and keep up with the times. They may have been dipping their toes in other styles, but nothing hit closer to the bone than "Bleeding Me."
Coming off the road after the Black Album, James Hetfield was left to confront his issues with alcoholism when it came to record the album. Rather than going into rehab first, Hetfield found that the best way to deal with his issues was in music, where he proceeded to pour out his soul into this 8 minute epic track. As opposed to the riff marathons of the band's earlier epics, this song starts off as if you are emerging from a drunken stupor before the electric guitars burst through to wake you up from your spiral.
Thanks to this one song, fans could catch a glimpse of the tortured soul lying behind the Metal Warlord. It's difficult for any kind of addict to clean up their ways, but only true artists are able to make brilliance out of their personal struggles.
