20 Most Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of All Time

4. Good Grief - Foo Fighters

It was a small miracle that the Foo Fighters' debut release broke through the way that it did. After Kurt Cobain's tragic death, Dave Grohl's first demos ended up becoming an overnight sensation, with tracks like "Big Me" and "I'll Stick Around" bridging the gap between grunge and modern rock. Then again, some sounds from the past were bound to creep in.

Out of all the material on the record, "Good Grief" stands as the most Nirvana-inspired song out of them all, with a detuned guitar line and caustic tempo from Grohl. Though Grohl's vocals are a lot brighter than Cobain's, the song's dour tone is something that wouldn't be too out of place on In Utero. The punkish energy of the song makes sense given Grohl's history in bands like Scream, but the tone of the guitars and relentless drum assault make the song feel like a metal tune in alternative clothing.

Dave Grohl may have laid the groundwork for a new band on this record, but songs like these would have made for perfect Nirvana tracks had Cobain lived. There were going to be harder times ahead for Grohl, but "Good Grief" shows one of the best modern rock bands in their birthing period.
