20 Punk Rock Albums Turning 20 In 2020
6. Wheatus - Wheatus
You know this CD even if you don't know you do. It gave the world a catchy classic in the form of "Leroy", a clever cover called "A Little Respect", and oh yeah, the adolescent anthem "Teenage Dirtbag". The breakthrough track was certified gold in the U.K less than a year after the release of the bands self titled introduction.
In the true spirit of punk rock the album was recorded in lead vocalist Brendan B. Brown's mother's basement. In addition to providing the location, the frontman also wrote the entire album with the exceptions of "A Little Respect" which was a cover and "Punk Ass Bitch" which was written by bassist Rich Liegey.
Those humble beginnings gave way to resounding success when both the album and the band were picked up by Columbia Records. From then on the writing was on the wall, Wheatus was certified Silver in the United Kingdom and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
The band's debut record was a universal success and would end up being the best of the New York based band's four studio albums.
Standout Track: Teenage Dirtbag (obviously)
