20 Punk Rock Albums Turning 20 In 2020
18. The White Stripes - De Stijl
Vocalist Jack White chose the name of this album as a reference to a Dutch art movement with which he had become infatuated with.
The CD was the second offering from the Detroit based duo and hit number 38 on the Billboard's Independent Albums. De Stijl combines blues and alternative punk in that unprecedented manner that only The White Stripes can. Due to this it has become a cult classic among many die hard fans of the alternative rock two-some.
Among these die hard supporters was at least one member of the The Simpsons as well as the infamous movie director Quentin Tarantino. The legendary television series featuring everyone's favorite Springfield family featured the album's twelfth track "Why Can't You Be Nicer to Me" in a 2010 episode entitled "Judge Me Tender" while the fourth song "Apple Bottoms" was included in the soundtrack for the western thriller "The Hateful Eight".
De Stijl was re-issued on vinyl via United Record Pressing. The album's name is Dutch for "The Style", and The White Stripes have arguably the most unique style of any band on this list.
