20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

5. No Control - Bad Religion

As stated before, it's hard to stack up against the Dead Kennedys when it comes to politically-charged punk rock. However, one band that more than stacks up and, in some ways, surpasses them is Bad Religion.

While Bad Religion has released plenty of great albums throughout the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, their 1989 release, No Control, definitely gets the nod as being the most essential.

So many songs on this album either present great sociopolitical commentary, or have great philosophical value. No Control, Big Bang, and I Want to Conquer the world are just a few examples. Plus, while the album was released nearly thirty years ago, a lot of its tracks are still very contemporary. After all, the subject matter of the song Anxiety isn't something that just went away after all these years

Finally, No Control is a fantastic showcase of lead singer Greg Graffin's extensive vocabulary. Graffin is a renowned scholar, after all, and destroyed punk stereotypes while spreading his message in albums like No Control.
