20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

1. Static Age - Misfits

Very few groups out there, punk rock or otherwise, possess the sheer mystique and enigmatic aura the Misfits absolutely radiated with. The Sex Pistols and Ramones are peerlessly iconic, but something about the Misfits in their prime was just otherworldly.

Fittingly, the horror punk band's magnum opus was a studio album that didn't see the light of day until sometime after it was created.

In early 1978, the Misfits recorded Static Age. However, while many of its tracks were released on singles, E.P.s, or compilations, Static Age was not given an entire, standalone release until mid-1997. But when it finally came out, it was incredible.

Misfits albums like Walk Among Us and American Psycho are amazing, but the sheer amount of iconic tracks present on Static Age is something you can't compete with. Hybrid Moments, We Are 138, She, and Teenagers From Mars are just a few of the absolute gems that are on this seventeen-track album.

The Misfits' seamless blend of danceable, rockabilly-inspired instrumentals with violent, inflammatory lyrics has never been better than it is in this album. Static Age is not only the single greatest creation of Glenn Danzig's career, but one that every punk rock fan absolutely must hear.
