20 Things Only Blink-182 Fans Understand

4. No One Makes Music Like Blink-182

Whilst the pop-punk genre has become very well populated in the years since blink-182 shot to fame, no one makes music quite like they do. The bands that try never live up to their greatness, and the bands that don€™t are fortunately eager to take the genre in different directions. During their hiatus, Good Charlotte€™s Joel Madden was quoted as saying their next record would fill the void left by blink€™s exit, and as great an album as Cardiology is, it doesn€™t sound anything like blink. (Which isn€™t a bad thing, because a) no one makes music like they do, and b) blink obviously went on to reform a few months after Madden€™s quote surfaced.)

3. Their Hiatus And Reunion Were The Worst And Best News Of The Past Decade

When news of the band€™s hiatus surfaced back in February 2005, everything came to a stop. blink was going on €œindefinite hiatus.€ It came just a few months after selling out an arena tour in the UK, and only a year and a half after releasing one of the most game-changing albums in recent memory, taking the sound they€™d become famous for from Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and running with it in a completely new direction. It was devastating, to say the least. (Obvious exaggeration to say it was the worst news ever, but at the very least the worst in the music industry.) Fast forward four years and the greatest news came in the form of the band getting back together. It took a tragic plane crash for Tom to start talking to Travis and Mark again, putting things into perspective, not wanting to throw away old friendships. Out of the ashes came Neighborhoods and Dogs Eating Dogs, to say nothing of the live shows they€™ve embarked on in the past five years, and hopefully plenty more new music and tours to come.
