20 Unsigned Metal Bands Everyone Needs To Hear

16. Modern Day Babylon

The only band on this list to hail from the Czech Republic (and the last instrumental act too), Modern Day Babylon is a European trio that should not be messed with, else they will grind your face into the ground with some of the best grooves in modern metal.

Making waves internationally thanks to a European tour this year, Modern Day Babylon's appeal is slightly different to that of other instrumental acts. While others, like Intervals, Animals as Leaders, Sithu Aye and so on, pride themselves on their leads and virtuoso soloing, for MDB, it's all about the rhythms. Sure, there's some techy soloing in there, but this is an experience tinged towards the more conventional metalhead, where riffs reign supreme. This band doesn't feel like it's showing off, much like a lot of other instrumental acts do: it seems more humble, geared towards crafting an experience or a journey instead of a technical masterclass.

I write for Metal Hammer, Prog and WhatCulture. I don’t have Facebook or Twitter, so you’ll just have to call me a stupid cuck to my face.
