8. A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms (2000)

a+perfect+circle+mer+de+noms+album+coverNotable Tracks: Magdalena, Judith, 3 Libras, Brena A rock supergroup, headed by none other than musical genius Maynard James Keenan, introduced their first album, Mer De Noms (French for "Sea of Names") in 2000. The album was an immediate success for rock fans and Tool fans alike. Placing this album in the eighth position almost makes me want to cringe. It's a true masterpiece for a freshman effort. Maynard James Keenan, in my estimation, could appropriately be referred to as the James Joyce of songwriting. Sometimes the lyrics are esoteric, sometimes they're not. One thing is for sure, though, MJK pours all of his heart and mind into his work. Such determination and meticulousness does not go unnoticed, especially in this list. There are different ways to listen to this album, however. If you want to be subjected to Maynard's enrapturing voice, I recommend beginning with 3 Libras, Brena, and Orestes. If you're a diehard fan of Tool (there's no other proper way to be a Tool fan, of course), then begin with Judith, Magdalena, and The Hollow. Your ears will show you immense gratitude.

Hello there! I'm a graduate of FGCU (A.K.A. Dunk City!) I'm currently working on an M.A. in English Literature at Hofstra University. I'd like to eventually pursue either a M.S. in Business Administration or a Ph.D in Old English and Medieval Literature. I do thoroughly enjoy studying Old English for some mysterious reason. In my spare time, I try to keep up with well over a dozen television shows simultaneously, I frequent the local theaters, and I am an avid sports or FPS video gamer. Some of my favorite TV shows include: Dexter, The Office, X-Files, Homeland, and The Sopranos. Some of my favorite films include: The Usual Suspects, Donnie Darko, American Beauty, Fight Club, and Goodfellas.
