25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of All Time

7. Dr Dre - The Chronic

After leaving N.W.A, Dr Dre set about working on his first solo album, something that belonged only to him and worked off the fame and success he had received with the rap group before their infamous fall-out.

In 1992, his work was done, and he released The Chronic through his own label, Death Row Records. Blending together gangsta rap with the more subdued sounds of G-funk thanks to the guest verses and catchy hooks of Snoop Dogg, The Chronic was yet another landmark in rap created by Dr Dre.

Though the other members of N.W.A had successful careers (including Ice Cube, whose records AmeriKkKa's Most Wanted and Death Certificate both deserve shout-outs), none of their solo records can compete with Dre's The Chronic, a record which bended the rules whilst keeping its identity as a solid hip-hop record.

The Chronic spoke to a generation, and many artists owe part of their success to its influence.
