25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Last Decade
23. Mac Miller - Swimming
Whenever a much-loved artist passes away, it can often lead to their fans putting their music, especially the more recent songs, up on a pedestal that isn't needed. Sadly, good music can be described as great just because they're in mourning. Luckily for us, that's not the case with Mac Miller's final album, Swimming.
While Swimming certainly deals with some heavy subjects, many of which Miller had spoken about at length during his career, it felt different from any of his other projects. When he decided to be introspective and shine the light on his inner demons, there was a sense of hope in his lyrics that wasn't there before.
Just look at a track like "Dunno," where Miller opens up about a past relationship, sharing the intimate details that make it so special to him. It's a very simple song, but so effective that it hits the right spot every single time you listen to it.
Miller was never the best rapper on the planet. He never claimed to be. However, watching his progression from much-hyped Pittsburgh MC to someone who could make an album as beautiful and honest as this speaks volumes of him as an artist.
