25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Last Decade
17. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Bandana
The second collaboration between Freddie Gibbs & Madlib had plenty of fans of their first album excited. After all, it really was a sensational debut from two hip-hop veterans which surpassed many expectations. While Bandana doesn't share the same blaxploitation theme as its predecessor, it's just as good as their 2014 effort.
While Pinata showcased Madlib's skills as a producer, he takes a slight back-step on this record to let Freddie Gibbs flex his lyrical skills on this record and it shows. The 37-year old rapper has never sounded this good in his career, spitting bars at rapid speed and using the type of punchlines that will force listeners to go back and dissect what he said.
Compared to Pinata, there aren't many features on the album. However, as mentioned in the review for that album, that's not a bad thing as we get more of Freddie Gibbs and his dark, yet oftentimes humorous raps about drugs, love, and the various things in between. After the two albums they brought out this decade, it's hard not to be excited for what Gibbs and Madlib do next.
