2. Why It's Better Than Wish You Were Here
Wish You Were Here: After the phenomenal success of The Dark Side of the Moon, the studio execs wanted another album pretty much exactly the same as the last. Instead, Pink Floyd gave them what was basically an elaborate insult to the recording industry, along with some moving tributes to their founder and original singer Syd Barrett. Additionally, Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright and guitarist David Gilmour have both named this album their favorite. So in what way could Animals possibly be better?
Why Animals Is Better: It is more musically complex. While the chord structure on most songs on the Wish You Were Here album were standard (C, G, Am) or slightly more unusual (Cmaj7), Animals had some insanely difficult chord structures on it, such as Ebmaj7sus2/Bb. Also, just listen to the middle three songs - Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones) and Sheep - to hear the finest solos David Gilmour ever recorded.
